Kauffman & Associates, Inc. Response to COVID-19

Friday, March 20, 2020

During this time of uncertainty, Kauffman & Associates, Inc. (KAI) wants to let our community know how we are handling the ever-changing situation and the promises we make to our clients, our employees, and our communities. Over the past 30 years KAI has had the privilege of making so many friends and expanding our family.

When COVID-19 first landed in Washington State, KAI began taking extra precaution with additional cleaning stations in each of our 3 offices, increased employee communication around safety precautions, and alternative work options.  We provided the basic CDC COVID-19 instructions to all staff about hand washing, disinfecting surfaces, respiratory etiquette, and staying home if sick.

As the unimaginable gravity of COVID-19 became apparent and ‘social distancing’ emerged as the key to reducing its impact, KAI instituted mandatory remote work from home for our teams on March 16. KAI takes seriously the health and well-being of our employees and their families.  We are working with our janitorial staff, mail carriers and delivery services to ensure our spaces, equipment, and packages are safe. We have instituted entry protocols for staff who need to be at any one of our 3 offices for any reason, so that each entry is formalized at disinfectant stations in the lobby.

KAI is committed to maintaining our capacity to continue doing important work, while being flexible to meet the changing demands of our contracts and clients.  We have seen all major gatherings that we had planned to coordinate, cancel or postpone. We are working closely with clients who have opted to move to virtual meetings, providing webinar, podcast, and videoconference options.

While our operations have transitioned to remote work with relative ease, we recognize that this is not the case for our clients and the many communities we serve. We want to assure you we are your partner in this process and we will be as innovative as possible to find options to complete tasks while protecting the health and safety of our staff and your community.

It is with an abundance of love, care, and concern for you, our community (employees and their families, our clients and the communities they serve), KAI is taking all precautions to reduce infections and slow the spread of the corona virus. As we learn new information each about this virus and its community impacts, we will adjust our approach.

Finally, we urge you to take time for you. Smudge. Pray. Sing. Laugh. Cry. Create. Reach out to old friends and relatives online. Support meal deliveries for our elders. Send donations to a nonprofit.  Reconnect to nature or whatever it is that sustains you.  We will get through this together, as community.  Remember, we do work that matters.
