Consulting with Tribes – A Federal Responsibility

American Indian Tribes have a special relationship with the Federal Government. In 2009, the President issued a memorandum reaffirming the government-to-government relationship between Tribal Nations and the Federal Government, which includes regular consultation prior to taking actions that affect tribal governments.
